Puddle
Konami makes a splash with Puddle

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH today confirmed the launch date for its clever Xbox LIVE® Arcade and PlayStation®Network puzzler, Puddle. The publisher also released a number of new images of the prize-winning title.

Puddle will be released via Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and via the PlayStation®Network for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system on January 25th. The game challenges the player to guide a number of liquid properties rocket fuel through a series of stages, each more inventive than the last.

The new screenshots showcase the broad variety of courses available to navigate. Players must dodge heat beams and rays of electric current that can fry their puddle, or handle a blob of radioactive fluid with care, follow a virtual puddle of rocket fuel through a hand drawn blueprint, and even follow a sip of water as it makes its way through a human body!

Players guide their respective liquid by tilting the environment, balancing each fluid's unique properties with the environmental factors of gravity, friction, and each course's obstacles. Players can only see one small section of a stage at a time, thus Puddle will offer plenty of unexpected twists, keeping players alert and ready for the next challenge. Puddle for the PlayStation® Network also supports motion controls using the Playstation® Move or Sixaxis controller.

Puddle began as a student project and duly won a Student Showcase prize at the Independent Gaming Festival at the Game Developer's Conference 2010. It arrives now as a fully-fledged downloadable game unlike anything players have experienced before.

Birds of Steel site takes off

KONAMI reveals dedicated site for stunning WWII air combat simulation

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH in conjunction with Gaijin Entertainment has opened a dedicated web site at www.birdsofsteel.com for its World War II flight combat simulator, Birds of Steel.

The new site has been designed to complement the new game, and showcases the varied content Birds of Steel offers. Birds of Steel has been developed by Gaijin Entertainment, and is a stunning combat simulator set within some of the most pivotal air battles of World War II, including the battle of Midway, Guadalcanal, Coral Sea, the historic attack on Pearl Harbour, Germany's Ruhr Valley, and others. Players can select how detailed they want each campaign to be, and are offered a wealth of single and multi-player campaigns.

Birds of Steel offers 20 historical and a wealth of fictitious missions, spanning eight world-famous campaigns, and users are given access to over 100 famous planes from the entire axis and allied forces rosters. A number of planes ideal for each campaign can be selected, and have been faithfully recreated in terms of handling, capabilities and weaponry. The classic Spitfire, P-51D Mustangs, and Messerschmidt 109 are all lined up for combat, as players opt to player opt to fight for the Allies, Japanese or Axis forces. Likewise, the war zones are brilliantly brought to life, while the handling and battle-scarred planes are susceptible to damage and will suffer in terms of control accordingly.

A series of camera views also allows users to witness their skills from a series of external views, or within the varied cockpits of the 100 planes. The missions are presented in a pre-conflict briefing, and players can also see how their contributions related to the overall path of the scenario, with new planes available on the completion of specific goals. Birds of Steel also offers the user a number of control systems, ranging from simplistic arcade-style movements, to entirely faithful control systems that offer total control over every aspect of flight - while the games huge online modes include co-op missions alongside friends, or massive multi-player online dogfights to see who owns the skies.

Fittingly for such a huge game, the new web portal will offer insights into the missions the game offers, and detailed descriptions of the many planes and their capabilities. A wealth of assets for the game are also offered, and fans of Birds of Steel can get to know like-minded people via the special links to a dedicated Facebook page.

Birds of Steel will be released for PlayStation(R)3 and Xbox 360® in March 2012.

Workaround for Game Plan issues after implementing PES 2012 Patch 1.02

The game may freeze when loading Formation Data created in Game Plan.

In order to avoid the above mentioned (assuming that patch 1.02 has been implemented), please take the following steps:

  • When loading the Formation Data in Game Plan, please delete the old Formation Data and save the current one in its place. This will stop the game from freezing.

  • Please make sure that the Formation Data is only used for the team you created it for. If you try loading Formation Data created for another thing, this may cause the game to freeze.

We will keep you informed on any advancements or potential fixes.

Day 5: Last but not Least

Hi people,

Gamescom is drawing to a close. Phew, these were some beautiful, but also very strenous days. The halls were full to the brim, with many things going on here at the Konami booth. Thanks for your visit!

PES 2012, Silent Hill Downpour, NeverDead etc. - the "big" titles I blogged about the past few days - have been played a lot.

That is why I am signing off from my gamescom coverage with an especially diverse mixture of games: An insider tip for action adventure fans, a WWII flight simulator, and a Kinect game of skill - there is something for everyone!

A Heavenly Adventure

The action adventure El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is my insider tip. The game tells a story about renegade angels and the priest Enoch, who wants to save the world from God's fury.

El Shaddai offers an extraordinary gaming experience with a unique graphics style emphasizing the biblical story. The gameplay features 2D and 3D platform passages as well as fierce battles. But the trailer is worth more than a thousand words:

El Shaddai has been developed by UTV Ignition Games with Sawaki Takeyasu (Devil May Cry, Okami) as project lead. The game will be released on 8 September for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Swing your Blade

I have also tested Blades of Time. As the treasure hunter Ayumi, you fight all sorts of nasty monsters on a mysterious island. The game is coming in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The video trailer already features some gameplay scenes. Ayumi uses more than 40 fighting techniques, including punch attacks and combos. But the real focus lies on the magical abilities of our hero, who can turn back time to defeat enemies and solve puzzles.

Birds of Steel brings you right into the vicissitudes of World War II, where you can fight 20 famous battles in more than 100 authentic planes, using a variable difficulty from Arcade to Simulation.

The online mode with up to 16 people fighting against each other promises some unique gameplay moments. On top of that, there will also be a 4-player co-op mode.

Leedmees, on the other hand, is much more peaceful. In this Kinect-supported game, you build platforms and bridges with your body to save the cute Leedmees.

Visist us at www.facebook.com/konami.europe. Here you can find all the news, all the screenshots, and of course all the trailers.

This entry marks the end of my blog. I hope you had some fun with my impressions from the Konami booth. And maybe I see you guys next year?

Bye until then,

Daniel

Day 4: Fun in your Pocket

Hi people,

Yesterday I visited the adult area of the Konami booth; today I am checking the handheld lounge where Konami is presenting new games for Nintendo DS and 3DS.

First I played Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knigts for Nintendo 3DS. This tricky adventure is coming autumn 2011.

Konami has released some new screenshots, giving you a first impression of the appealing graphics and the fantastic game world you can expect in Doctor Lautrec.

In this puzzle game set in the 19th century, you and Doctor Lautrec go on a search for the treasure of the Sun King Louis XIV, solving over 250 challenging puzzles in more than 20 hours of playing time. These are quite varied; sometimes you have to look for hints and tips in the surroundings, other times you solve sliding puzzles or trace things.

If you do not want to rack your brains alone, Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights also offers the Treasure Hunt mode where up to four players puzzle out together or compete against each other.

Let it rip!

This brings me to Beyblade Metal Masters: Nightmare Rex. You sure know the anime TV series, 37 characters of which are featured in Nightmare Rex.

Let your spinning tops dance, assemble them yourself, and battle your friends in Two-player mode. You can also control your Bey with the Nintendo DS microphone- very interesting!

With the retail version, you get a real Bey, or more precisely: Konami gives you the legendary Nightmare Rex SW145SD, which has been exclusively available in Japan, but now you can also get it here.

Alive and Jumping after 30 Years

You could also play a demo version of the Nintendo 3DS title Frogger 3D in the handheld lounge. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Konami is releasing a new version of this game of skill. Jump across six huge new worlds with more than 60 levels.

However, Frogger is not alone this time; our jumping friend has brought some colleagues with special abilities that make for fresh 3D gameplay. Use them to destroy obstacles or protect Frogger.

More information about Konami and gamescom can be found at www.facebook.com/konami.europe, giving you facts, screenshots and trailers for the presented games.

Now it is time to say goodbye from the handheld lounge. Tomorrow we are going to continue with titles like El Shaddai, Leedmees, and Blades of Time. So, do not miss the last part of our Konami blog!

See you tomorrow!

Daniel
